Out of almost 500 entries, Mother, (v), won the 2023 Cinnamon Press Pamphlet Contest.
The panel of judges noted: "Mother, (v) by Anne Marie Wells is formally distinctive and beautifully honed. Reflective, precise and poignant, this is honest, exquisitely realised poetry exploring fertility with a freshness and intelligence that draws the reader in deeply."
Quite literally pregnant with longing and a desire to love, Mother, (v) is both a meditation on and plea for motherhood. It is raw, reflective, and as I read, I found myself reaching for my heart, as the lyrical and elemental poems grew on the page. Wells writes with authentic candor, inviting readers to sit alongside her vulnerability, disappointments, and heartbreaks. In doing so, anyone who reads Mother, (v) will feel seen and held on their motherhood journeys. - Krystle May Statler, author of Prayer for Relief
This chapbook may be short but it packs an emotional punch. You can feel the anguish Anne Marie felt while writing these poems. - Tina Rimbeck, Founder of Buzzin' Books
Another beautiful book by Anne Marie. I particularly like the way she plays with layouts on the page, it adds even more depth to her words. I’m sure there are many want-to-be-parents out there who will connect with this collection. - Julia C., Senior Copy Editor for Science Magazine.
